History

Ms. B was a bright child who had been raised in a bad situation by a mother who did not value education because she was functionally illiterate.  As many children raised in dysfunction do, Ms. B couldn't wait to get out!  So at age sixteen she took the California High School Proficiency Examination and got out.

Back then a hard working bright young woman could worm her way into a good company by temping.  Ms. B had dreamed of becoming a screenwriter, so she worked temporary gigs while she educated herself by taking workshops &  extension courses, volunteering on college student's films and reading books.  She landed in broadcasting, working in the traffic departments of Los Angeles area radio stations.  Without the benefit of a college education Ms. B. managed to eke out a pretty decent living.  One that enabled her to travel the world, hob knob with the rich & famous and lead a pretty enjoyable life.

Then Ms. B suffered a head injury after a car accident with a hit & run driver.  The accident left her with a seizure disorder.  Unable to work and beginning to run out of money, against her doctor's advice Ms. B. tried to return to work, but for the first time in her life, she could not find a job.

Internet hiring practices had taken over.  With computers programmed to look for a certain criteria, it did not matter how much experience she had, Ms. B could not even get an interview, rather on land a job.  Once she finally ran out of money Ms. B wound up on the street!

She started helping out at a church she and her dogs had actually been sleeping behind, doing odd jobs like painting and maintenance, when one day the pastor asked her to help make some flyers for an upcoming event and discovered Ms. B's talent for writing.  Next thing you know she was writing for all kinds of things for the church.

Like most people Ms. B had assumed people that lived on the street were all drunks, addicts & hobos.  On the street Ms. B discovered there were many people like her, skilled, but not formally educated and with today's internet hiring practices in place now they're unable to find work!  At the church Ms. B organized an outreach that utilized local homeless people to do handy work for senior, disabled, and low-incomed members of the church.  Others the pastor networked with began to take advantage of Ms. B's crew of "homeless helpers" services, and Ms. B's writing skills as well. What began as an act of gratefulness, has spawned a career of writing for some great organizations out there doing a lot of good, that desperately needed writers but could not afford them, nonprofit agencies.

It was working with these agencies this past decade where Ms. B first found out about America's current dropout epidemic, over 3 million kids a year!  And to make matters worse, even the kids who were graduating, often just passed through and read at only a 5th grade level!  That was when Ms B realized that if she, who had been a straight A student, with a very high IQ, that had been in the gifted program since she was 7-years old, and had years of experience working at some the most prominent entertainment companies in the industry could not find a job, how on earth will these dropouts who can barely read, ever find work?

If kids continue dropping out like they've been doing, by 2020 There will be 10 million kids with no education, no chance, no hope on the street.  With today's internet hiring practices, 90% of those children will likely end up wasting whatever talents they were given and most will wind up in jail, or on the street.

That's when Ms. B went on a mission to come up with a way to get kids stay in school, especially bright kids like herself who drew the short straws when it came to parents, and might try forgoing college to escape family dysfunction.   Ms. B combined her talent for copywriting, with her knowledge of the advertising world, to create a movement that utilizes what teens love most, music & technology, to inspire our youth to Rock the Classroom and get the education they need, to create the life of they want.  Hoping you will join us and let's Rock the Classroom!
